The leaders of former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal’s fledgling Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) received a hostile reception in Mirpurkhas on Thursday as their motorcade was attacked in over half a dozen locations in the district.
At least 10 persons, including two reporters, were injured after locals pelted the PSP with stones and eggs. Eight to ten vehicles, including the one carrying Kamal and Anis Qaimkhani, were damaged.
Although the rally was escorted by a considerable police contingent led by SSP Usman Ghani Siddiqui, the security still proved insufficient to fully protect the PSP motorcade from attacks. Ratanabad saline drain, Heerabad, Ghareebabad, New Town, Mohajir Colony and other areas remained in the grips of pro and anti-Kamal rallies and protests, the latter reportedly staged by Muttahida Qaumi Movement supporters.

ddressing his supporters, Mustafa Kamal said ‘this man’ has no brother, sister or any close relative in Pakistan. “The people of Sindh must not listen to this man who would only incite hatred among you,” he added.
He, however, said no one will be able pit one brother of Sindh against another, stressing that the brothers of Sindh must rise above all the hatred and make a new beginning.
Earlier, activists of Mustafa Kamal’s rival party pelted his convoy with stones and eggs, shattering window panes of the vehicles including the one he was traveling in.
The situation got real tense, as a scuffle broke out between the supporters of Mustafa Kamal and the activists of his rival party.
The situation led to an exchange of blows and as a result buttons of Mustafa Kamal’s shirt were broken while Anees Qaimkhani had his face bruised.
Mustafa Kamal said it is not the fault of these youngsters. “These boys have been misguided. We will replace the stones in their hand with books and pen,” he added.
Earlier this March, when Kamal returned to Pakistan, the MQM dissident unleashed a salvo of bombastic ‘revelations’ against party chief Altaf Hussain, accusing him of deception, addressing workers while intoxicated and poor running of the MQM.
Since then, the former mayor of Karachi has pulled former MQM heavyweights Advocate Anis, Raza Haroon, Anis Kaimkhani, Dr Sagheer, Iftikhar Alam, Waseem Aftab into his party.
A number of senior MQM members left the country suddenly around the time Kamal returned to Karachi, causing speculation as to the reasons behind their seemingly abrupt departure.
While certain party members left before Kamal’s visit to Karachi, uncertainty persists regarding the reasons for the absences of other party members.
According to the details MQM activists attacked on the Kamal’s convoy and threw stones at their vehicles. The charged mod stopped his vehicle and attempted to pull him out. Mustafa Kamal and Anees Qaimkhani received miner injures in the clash.
A large number to Pak Sarzameen Party activists were present at the meeting place to welcome him.

Note:Security for Mustafa Kamal and leaders of the newly formed Pak Sarzameen Party has been beefed up following an attack on them by rival party members at Mirpurkhas where they inaugurated a party office on Thursday.
